Position Summary

The Field Superintendent is responsible for providing support to the business units with regards to drilling operations. They will plan and initiate all field activities and ensure that all field operations are in compliance with regulatory and company policies. The Field Superintendent will review and approve all expenditures within responsible scope of work. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise rig managers and ensure all company and government rules, policies and regulations are followed and address customer concerns
  • Gather morning updates from all assigned rigs
  • Approve PO’s and invoices related to rigs within their appropriate limits
  • Work in conjunction with HSE department to ensure all procedures are being followed and safety requirements are adhered to at each rig site
  • Work in conjunction with personnel department to ensure staffing levels are met for each rig
  • Monitor all equipment for recertification and schedule as required
  • Process all paperwork in timely manner and meet documentation requirements
  • Attend all operator initiated field safety meetings as required
  • Assist in coordinating rig moves, county permits with rig managers and trucking companies
  • Ensure proper and valid insurance is in place for rig moves
  • Ensure adherence to operating standards and accountable for field operations in assigned areas
  • Assist HSE in incident investigations
  • Review rig performance on regular basis and recommend and track corrective actions
  • Hold valid second line well control and all mandatory tickets
  • Organize production and other reports as required
  • Perform rig inspections on a regular basis to ensure equipment is properly maintained (once per month per rig)
  • Extensive interaction with customers at the field level
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions and terminations
  • Set up methods to meet work schedules and bring together work activities with other departments
  • Assess and coach Rig Managers to provide quality supervision to their crews
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Help establish and executive KPI’s

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 10+ years drilling experience, plus a minimum of 5 years' experience working as a Rig Manager
  • High school or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's lisence
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and interact productively with indiviuduals from a wide range of industry backgrounds and experiences
  • Direct supervision of drilling rig operations
  • Extensive Drilling Rig operations experience; ideally having worked previously in all relevant positions including Rig Manager as a minimum
  • Proven technical skills, specifically in areas of hydraulics, electrical and mechanical systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to achieve results
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities to meet deadlines

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Field visits are required; must hold valid driver's license and be able to meet site safety reuirements
  • Overtime and after-hours response will be required depending on projects and activities
  • Approximately 60% travel required
  • 24 hours on call as required
