Eagle Well Servicing is hiring a Apprentice Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in our Blackfalds location!

Western Energy Services Corp. (Corporate) is an energy service company which provides contract drilling services through Horizon Drilling in Canada and Stoneham Drilling Corporation in the United States. In addition, Western provides well servicing through Eagle Well Servicing in Canada, and provides rental services through Aero Rental Services in Canada.

Position Summary

The Apprentice Heavy Equipment Mechanic will assist Journeyman Mechanics in the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, generators, and service rig equipment within the well servicing fleet. This position provides hands-on mechanical experience in both shop and field environments while progressing through an accredited apprenticeship program. The Apprentice will support preventative maintenance activities, equipment repairs, and breakdown response while developing technical skills under the guidance of senior mechanics.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of engines, transmissions, gearboxes, pumps, drawworks, and related service rig equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance including fluid changes, filter replacements, lubrication, adjustments, and routine inspections.
  • Assist with engine, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical repairs under the direction of Journeyman Mechanics.
  • Support engine rebuilds, component replacements, and equipment overhauls as required.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and testing generator systems and electrical components.
  • Complete equipment inspections and identify deficiencies requiring repair.
  • Learn and apply proper diagnostic procedures using manufacturer service information and company standards.
  • Travel to field locations to assist with equipment inspections, repairs, and breakdown response.
  • Maintain professional communication with rig crews and field personnel.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues over the phone when appropriate.
  • Operate forklifts, loaders, and material handling equipment as trained and authorized.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting equipment and repair components.
  • Complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in parts identification and inventory management activities.
  • Promote and adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Registered Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Year) or willingness to enter an apprenticeship program.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and desire to develop diagnostic and repair skills.
  • Basic understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • H2S Alive and First Aid certifications are considered assets.
  • Forklift and loader operation experience is considered an asset.
  • Service rig or oilfield equipment experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

 Special Conditions of Employment

  • Overtime may be required based on operational activity levels
  • Work is performed in both office and outdoor yard environments
  • Physical labor, lifting, climbing, and equipment operation required
  • Valid driver’s license required
