Western Energy is hiring a VP, Business Development to join our team in our Calgary location!

 

Western Energy Services Corp. (Corporate) is an oilfield service company which provides contract drilling services through Horizon Drilling in Canada and Stoneham Drilling Corporation in the United States. In addition, Western provides well servicing through Eagle Well Servicing in Canada, and provides rental services through Aero Rental Services in Canada.

 

Position Summary

 

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President of Business Development is a senior executive responsible for leading the strategic direction and execution of all sales and marketing activities across the company’s Canadian and U.S Drilling Divisions (Horizon and Stoneham Drilling) and Production Services, including Well Servicing and Rentals (Eagle Well Servicing and Aero Rentals). This executive plays a key role in driving growth, maximizing asset utilization, and building long-term client relationships. The VP works cross-functionally with operations leadership to develop tailored equipment packages, identify market opportunities, and position the company for sustained, profitable work with top-tier clients.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute growth strategies to increase utilization of drilling rigs, service rigs, and rental assets across all regions.
  • Target high-value opportunities and access top-tier clients through strategic engagement, networking, and relationship management.
  • Develop and present custom equipment upgrade strategies and bundled service packages to win sustained opportunities.
  • Focus on securing longer-term commitments and contracts to drive predictable revenue and reduce dependency on spot work.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations Leaders, for both Drilling and Production Services, to ensure alignment between business development efforts and field capacity.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior client stakeholders, industry leaders, and decision-makers.
  • Champion the company’s value proposition through compelling messaging and client-focused communication.
  • Actively engage in RFP processes and proposal development.
  • Work with operations teams to design and cost equipment packages for potential opportunities.
  • Act as a strategic bridge between business goals and field execution, ensuring feasibility, scalability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Champion client satisfaction and retention through proactive communication and tailored service solutions.
  • Oversee the development of marketing efforts, campaigns and customer events to support business development.
  • Represent the company at key industry events, conferences, and other client forums.
  • Lead and mentor a team of sales, marketing, and business development professionals.
  • Set clear goals, KPIs, and accountability standards to drive team performance.
  • Work closely with the Finance team to ensure all business development activities align with budgetary expectations.
  • Support the creation and management of annual sales budgets, forecasts, and margin targets.
  • Ensure customer billing issues are resolved promptly, including addressing invoicing discrepancies, delayed payments, or commercial disputes.
  • Help enforce processes that ensure billing accuracy and timeliness in collaboration with finance and operations.
  • Perform additional assignments or as required by the needs of the business, or as directed by the President. 

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 10+ years of business development, sales, or executive-level commercial leadership in oil & gas, with experience across both Drilling and Production Services.
  • Proven ability to win and grow long-term contracts, access key clients, and lead multi-region strategies.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. and Canadian oilfield markets and customer base.
  • Experience collaborating with finance and operations to manage budgets, billing, and customer account performance.
  • Excellent negotiation, leadership, and relationship-building skills.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Frequent travel to operations sites / offices and client meetings.
  • Availability for after-hours client support.
